Bruins captain Zdeno Chara signs with Capitals
Well 2020 had to give Bruins fans one last kick in the… before it ended as news broke yesterday that Bruins captain Zdeno Chara has left the Boston Bruins and signed a 1-year contract with the Washington Capitals for $795K. It is official as Bruins management have issued statements and Zdeno Chara put out a statement on Instagram.
Why did Zdeno Chara leave the Bruins and sign with the Capitals? Well this nhl.com article does a good job including all the quotes you’ll need to read to understand why, and that is because the Bruins were going to “reduce” Chara’s role and most likely playing time, to let the young players get more experience. After reading that article, I can understand why Chara left the Bruins and it sucks but I don’t blame him. Good luck Zdeno, thank you for bringing the Stanley Cup back to Boston in 2011, we are no doubt going to miss you.
